Biography: Competition

Luke heads up Gilbert + Tobin's competition & regulation practice. A specialist in competition law, Luke has extensive experience in all aspects of competition law, in relation to merger clearances, joint venture and alliance structuring, enforcement and cartel matters, as well as the regulation of monopoly infrastructure industries. Luke is consistently ranked as one of Australia's leading competition and regulatory lawyers, being consistently recognised by numerous directories and publications including International Who's Who, Chambers Global, PLC Which lawyer and Australia's Best Lawyers. Luke is recognised as a leading advisor on the regulation of monopoly industry infrastructure. The firm's clients include Google, Telstra (Australia's leading telecommunications provider), and Virgin Australia (Australia's second-largest airline).

Prior to joining Gilbert + Tobin, Luke was general counsel and executive general manager of the enforcement and compliance division at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). Luke was also the head of the ACCC's mergers and asset sales branch.

Luke has a Masters' degree in public administration, specialising in economic regulation from Harvard University, as well as a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (honours) from the University of Sydney. Luke is a member of the Law Council of Australia – competition and consumer committee, American Bar Association – antitrust section, and the International Bar Association.
