Michael J Schmidtberger has been a partner in Sidley's New York office since 1993. His principal areas of practice are securities and futures-related funds and corporate transactions including related regulatory matters. He regularly advises and represents clients in domestic and international offerings of hedge funds, fund of funds, public and private commodity pools and structured derivative and principal-protected transactions. Schmidtberger is a past member of the New York City Bar Association Committee on Futures Regulation (1997 to 2000).

Schmidtberger is a member of the firm's executive committee and is co-head of the Investment Funds, Advisers and Derivatives Group. He received his JD from Columbia University School of Law in 1985, where he was the editor-in-chief of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review, and he received his BA from Columbia College in 1982, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with the Bennett Cerf Prize in English.
