He has in-depth expertise in South African merger control and cartel law and has represented and advised numerous local and international clients on South African competition law.
Pieter is the chairperson of Lex Africa, a network of leading law firms in 27 African countries, and a trustee of the Ten Toes Ten Fingers Trust which assists persons with disabilities including landmine victims. He is a former chair of the legal sector of the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) Business Foundation.
He is also a member of the International Bar Association (IBA) and is currently the vice chair of the IBA's antitrust committee and the committee's newsletter reporter for South Africa. He is also a member of the competition law committee of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces, one of South Africa's law societies.
Pieter has consistently been recognised in international ratings as one of South Africa's foremost competition lawyers and has been named as a leading lawyer in antitrust by Best Lawyers International; in competition by The International Who's Who Legal of Business Lawyers and as a leading, highly recommended, recommended, or recognised lawyer in competition/antitrust, corporate/M&A, private equity/venture capital, corporate governance and in director's duties and liabilities by PLC Which Lawyer.
Pieter has a BSc in Laboratory Medicine and an LLB law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, as well as a Masters in Law (specialising in competition law) from the University of South Africa.
