Biography: Competition

Mr Hockett is a member of Davis Polk & Wardwell's litigation department, practising in the Menlo Park office. He represents clients in a broad range of complex commercial litigation matters, including patent litigation, antitrust and unfair competition disputes and consumer class actions. He has also counselled and represented clients in connection with government investigations and the antitrust aspects of mergers and acquisitions. His clients have included leading technology and telecommunications companies such as AT&T, Cadence Design Systems, Cingular, Comcast, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Oracle and T-Mobile. He has also represented a variety of clients in other industries, including financial services, media, manufacturing and health care.

Mr Hockett is a member of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Bar Association of San Francisco and the University of Virginia Law School Alumni Council (2007-present). He is programme officer for the ABA section of antitrust law (2007-present) and on the board of directors of Bay Area Legal Aid (1999-present). Mr Hockett is co-chair (2001-present) of the Northern California Council of the Wildlife Conservation Society (formerly the New York Zoological Society).

Mr Hockett has authored numerous publications on antitrust matters and is a frequent speaker on trial advocacy, intellectual property and competition issues.

He has been recognised since 2003 as one of "America's Leading Business Lawyers" in Chambers USA. He is listed as a leading lawyer in several other legal industry publications, including Best Lawyers in America, Practical Law Company's Cross-border Competition and Leniency Handbook (2007/08) and Legalease's The Legal 500 US (2007). Mr Hockett joined Davis Polk as a partner in 2008 from Bingham McCutchen, where he was a partner in the San Francisco office and the immediate past chair of the firm's litigation area.

He is admitted to the bars of California, the US District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of California, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Tenth Circuits.
