Biography: Competition

José María Jiménez-Laiglesia specialises in EC law, competition and regulatory law. He has practised in Brussels, London and Madrid. The competition practice of DLA Piper (Madrid), in which he works with his brother, Juan, and Antonio Creus, is ranked as one of the leading and most experienced practices in Spain.

He has extensive experience in counselling and litigation in antitrust and competition matters in different areas: joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions as well abuse of dominant position, cartel investigations, and state aid matters before the European Commission, the European courts and Spanish competition authorities and courts.

He is a former associate professor of Competition Law and Policy at the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid and is a lecturer in Competition and Regulatory Law in the Masters programme of the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid.

He holds an LLM from University College (London). He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association and the Spanish Association for the Defence of Competition.
