Biography: Mining
John Turner is the head of Fasken Martineau's global mining group. Fasken Martineau is the only global law firm with leading mining practitioners located in each of the key mining centres of Toronto, London, Paris, Johannesburg, Vancouver and Quebec. Nine of its partners are listed here as experts in mining law.John has been primarily involved in negotiating international mergers and acquisitions and financings in the resources sector. One of Canada's leading newspapers described John as 'one of the best dirt lawyers in Canada, if not the world'.
John has advised on several recent high-profile M&A transactions including acting for Uranium One in respect of its US$1.6 billion change of control transaction with ARMZ, Addax Petroleum on its US$8.3 billion sale to Sinopec (the largest foreign acquisition to date by a Chinese state-owned enterprise), Aquiline Resources on its US$626 million sale to Pan American Silver and AngloGold Ashanti in respect of its US$611 million joint acquisition with Randgold of Moto Gold Mines.
John has also acted for resources companies in connection with projects in every region of the globe.
