Biography: Insolvency & Restructuring

Richard T Peters is a partner in Sidley's Los Angeles office and practises in the areas of bankruptcy and reorganisation law and debtor-creditor matters.

Mr Peters's representations have included the debtors in Humble Exploration, Smith International and Nucorp Energy; the unsecured creditors' committee in De Laurentiis Entertainment Group Inc; the successful plan proponent in Marina International Properties Ltd; the senior secured lenders in SPI Holdings Inc (Spectradyne); the bank-bondholder committee in Family Health Plans Inc (Maxicare); the unsecured creditors' committee in Wherehouse Entertainment Inc; and a variety of private and institutional lenders, investors and acquirers in both out-of-court workouts and bankruptcy cases.

Mr Peters has been a member of the board of governors of the Los Angeles Financial Lawyers Conference, and has chaired the debtor-creditor relations and bankruptcy subcommittee of the business law section, State Bar of California, and served as vice-chair of the executive committee of the business law section, State Bar of California. He has served as a consultant for California Continuing Education of the Bar, and has participated as a panellist or speaker in programmes on bankruptcy-related subjects sponsored by the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Financial Lawyers Conference, the National Commercial Finance Association, UCLA Extension and California Continuing Education of the Bar. He is a Fellow of, and has also served as Regent for, the American College of Bankruptcy, and the chair of the Ninth Circuit admissions council, and is presently a member of the College's board of directors.

Mr Peters is a graduate from UCLA School of Law where he was managing editor of the UCLA Law Review.
