Biography: Corporate Tax

Thomas Crichton is a partner in Vinson & Elkins's tax department. His practice involves federal income tax matters, with particular emphasis in the natural resource, partnership and corporate areas. His practice focuses primarily on business transactional tax advice and contested tax matters involving US and international activities. He has represented clients before the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service in requests for ruling and other proceedings, and before the various appeals offices of the Internal Revenue Service, the United States Tax Court, and other tribunals concerning tax deficiency matters and claims for refund.

Mr Crichton's experience has earned him recognition in Texas Monthly as a "Texas Super Lawyer" in tax law, 2004-2007; and by The Best Lawyers in America as a leader in tax law, 1987-1988 (Houston), and 2003-2008 (Dallas). He is a frequent speaker and programme-planning committee member for various taxation programmes, a long-time member and former chair of the ABA tax section's committee on natural resources, co-author of a BNA Tax Management Portfolio dealing with partnership allocations, and a former adjunct professor of law at the University of Houston.

Mr Crichton obtained his BS in 1969 and his JD in 1972 from Louisiana State University. He is admitted to practise in Texas, Louisiana, the District of Columbia, the US Tax Court, the US Court of Federal Claims, and the US Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits.
