Biography: Management Labour and Employment

Doug Hamel serves as co-head of Vinson & Elkins' employment litigation and labour practice group, where he focuses on representing management in labour and employment law, civil rights law, ERISA litigation, and related issues. His clients include companies in energy production and refining, energy services, health care, insurance, manufacturing, transportation and trucking, and the arts.

He has represented clients in matters involving issues of employment discrimination, pension benefits, and labour relations (including union organising and decertification, collective bargaining and unfair labour practices) before state and federal courts, and numerous federal and state agencies including the US Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, National Labor Relations Board, US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, and Texas Commission on Human Rights.

Doug is certified in labour and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialisation. Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers named him a leader in employment, 2004 to 2008; and he's included in The Best Lawyers in America as a standout in labour and employment law, 1995 to 2008.

Doug obtained his BA in Mathematics and Physics, with distinction, from the University of Virginia in 1972; and his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1976.
