Eric Groten is a partner at Vinson & Elkins. He is a full-service Clean Air Act practitioner. His career of over 20 years has allowed him to undertake the full array of legal work generated by state and federal air quality laws, including the defence of cases brought to enforce them; prosecution of applications for the permits they require; transactions in the various forms of emissions currency created by them; counselling on and auditing of compliance with them; and changing the laws and rules that implement them.

His success in these endeavours has earned Mr Groten the recognition of the legal press. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America, in Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers and as a "Super Lawyer" in environmental and land use in Texas Monthly. Chambers USA described Mr Groten as "a highly experienced air emissions lawyer, distinguished in the market by the sizeable volume of contested air permitting work he undertakes". Texas Lawyer recognised Mr Groten as one of nine "legal innovators" in the state of Texas across all legal disciplines based on his work to create the legal infrastructure for and then execute the first-ever emission trades across the Texas-Mexico border.

Mr Groten obtained his BA from Baylor University in 1981; and his JD from the University of Texas in 1985.
