Peter Mims is a partner in the intellectual property/technical litigation section of Vinson & Elkins. For more than 20 years, he has been representing clients regarding intellectual property in both litigation and transactional matters.

Mr Mims has represented clients in trademark infringement and false advertising claims in federal and state courts and before the National Advertising Board of the Better Business Bureau. He has also handled trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings and trademark prosecution matters in the United States Trademark Office. Mr Mims also counsels clients on trademark, trade dress, and advertising clearance matters and on trademark license agreements.

Mr Mims's intellectual property practice also includes representing clients in patent infringement, trade secret, and covenant not compete litigation in federal and state court and before arbitration panels. He represents clients in mergers and acquisitions with respect to intellectual property and technology and has negotiated technology transfer and licence agreements in diverse industries, including the energy, petrochemical processing and equipment, oil and gas services, food and software industries. Mr Mims has been recognised as a leading lawyer by Legal 500 US (energy-sector patent litigator). He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association.

Mr Mims obtained his BSChE in 1978 and MChE in 1979 from Rice University, and his JD from the University of Texas School of Law in 1985.
