Biography: Banking

Craig Murray is a partner in the business and international section of Vinson & Elkins. Mr Murray's primary area of practice is corporate and energy-related finance, with special emphasis on structured finance, asset securitisation, project finance, mezzanine finance and private equity.

His corporate finance experience includes representing lenders and borrowers in structuring and documenting debt-financing transactions, as well as investments by banks and insurance companies and project development investments by funds. This work has involved traditional commercial loans, asset securitisations, project financings, leveraged buy-out financings, real estate financings and loan workouts. Mr Murray's experience in energy finance has involved oil and gas properties in all major oil and gas producing states, as well as offshore properties in the Gulf Coast.

Mr Murray has been recognised by The Best Lawyers in America in banking law, 2006; Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers in banking and finance law, 2004-2007; 'Texas Super Lawyers' in banking, Texas Monthly, 2004-2006; and 'The Best Lawyers in Houston', H Texas magazine, 2004. He is a member of the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute and the Texas Association of Bank Counsel.

Mr Murray speaks at seminars and continuing legal education programmes relating to structured finance, legal drafting, and the basics of secured transactions.

He graduated from Rhodes College (formerly Southwestern at Memphis), BA in 1969, and Louisiana State University, JD in 1976.
