Biography: Employee Benefits

Carol H Jewett's principal area of practice is employee benefits, executive compensation, and ERISA, with a focus on federal income tax issues. Her experience includes a wide variety of work in the areas of all types of qualified plans and employee welfare benefit plans, non-qualified and supplemental benefit arrangements, and executive and incentive compensation arrangements. Her clients range in size from sole proprietorships to large publicly traded companies and include tax-exempt and governmental entities.

Ms Jewett's representation of these clients includes drafting documents in connection with the implementation and ongoing administration of their employee benefit plans and executive compensation arrangements; representing them before the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor; providing legal advice on such issues as fiduciary responsibility requirements, tax effects, and disclosure and other compliance matters; handling all aspects of benefit plans and arrangements that arise in conjunction with business transactions; and providing advice on litigated matters that involve benefit plans and arrangements.

For her work, The Best Lawyers in America has recognised Ms Jewett as a leader in employee benefits law for the last 20 years, 1987-2007, and she has been named a 'Texas Super Lawyer' in ERISA and employee benefits law by Texas Monthly, 2003-2005.

Ms Jewett received her BA from Rice University in 1972 and her JD with honours from the University of Texas School of Law in 1975.
