Biography: Commercial Arbitration
Sidney O Smith Jr is of counsel in the firm's Atlanta office. He formerly served as a state trial judge and as United States district judge for the Northern District of Georgia, serving as its chief judge for six years. Judge Smith has served as an arbitrator and mediator for over fifteen years and is experienced in all forms of ADR. He has conducted proceedings for AAA, CPR, Endispute, Resolution Resources, Judicate, Resolute Systems and various private litigants. He has lectured and appeared as a panellist on numerous programmes involving ADR for the state bar and the American Arbitration Association. Judge Smith joined the firm in 1974. He received an AB degree in Government from Harvard College in 1947 and an LLB from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1949. He is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, American Law Institute and American Judicature Society and is a fellow of the American Bar Association.
