Biography: Trademarks

Ginabeth Hutchison is a counsel in Alston & Bird's intellectual property group. She concentrates her practice on trademark portfolio management and counsels clients as to the clearance of proposed marks, registration of cleared marks and maintenance of registered marks, both in the United States and overseas.

Working with large portfolio clients, Ms Hutchison uses a network of international associates in more than 100 countries to ensure that those clients' trademark assets are adequately protected through registration in the jurisdictions in which those clients do business directly or through licensees. Additionally, she has assisted several clients in transitioning their trademark portfolios to Alston & Bird for the prosecution of pending applications and the maintenance of active registrations. Before assisting clients with applications to register new marks federally, however, Ms Hutchison directs the production of clearance searches, reviews the resulting reports and gives a legal opinion as to the level of risk adoption and registration of the proposed mark would carry.

Ms Hutchison received her JD degree, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1991, where she served on the editorial board of Georgia Law Review and as executive chairman of the moot court board. She received her MBA from Auburn University in 1979, and her BA, summa cum laude, from Auburn University in 1977.
