Biography: Corporate Immigration

Eileen Scofield, counsel at Alston & Bird, has over 20 years of experience, with a focus on immigration law and related legal matters for US and overseas clients. She has successfully managed over 30 Department of Homeland Security (BICE) audits within the last two years on behalf of various clients - resulting in no fines for her clients - and has also handled workplace raids by the DHS, providing immediate and hands-on advice during the actual raid, as well as follow-up. Ms Scofield has also provided advice to clients on audit response, internal processing, follow-up and conclusion.

Eileen has managed more than 15 social security administration audits within the last two years, coordinating the efforts of corporate record keeping, hiring procedures and verification programmes. She manages over 1,000 immigration cases per year, for over 120 companies, regarding employees from over 40 countries.

On a regular basis, Eileen works with clients to establish corporate policies and procedures in ongoing, restructuring and transactional situations, to both comply with the law and prepare for sensitive internal and external investigations related to hiring procedures, I-9 compliance, employment of foreign nationals, IRCA compliance and office of special counsel national origin discrimination issues; and to address issues of philosophy, record keeping, documentation, compliance, documented use, penalties and enforcement. She also advises on US national and state-level legislative issues and has participated in the drafting of legislation related to employers, employer compliance and employer sanction issues.

Ms Scofield is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, serving on several committees and as a lecturer at its events. She received her BA from the University of Hawaii and her JD from the University of Georgia.
