Biography: Insolvency & Restructuring

James J Lee is a partner in the firm's insolvency and reorganisation section. Mr Lee's practice focuses on bankruptcy litigation and other complex commercial litigation, primarily involving creditors' and debtors' rights, financial institutions and non-traditional lenders, lender liability, and matters concerning financially distressed companies. Mr Lee has over 30 years of experience in the courtroom, as well as in the arbitration and mediation of commercial disputes. His experience includes out-of-court workouts and restructures.

In commercial litigation, Mr Lee has represented both plaintiffs and defendants at the trial and appellate levels. Mr Lee also has extensive experience in large and complex bankruptcies, where he has litigated a broad range of contested matters and adversary proceedings on behalf of secured lenders, debtors, creditors' committees, trustees and other parties-in-interest.

Mr Lee is board certified in civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialisation. Mr Lee's accomplishments in bankruptcy law, bankruptcy litigation and commercial litigation, have earned him recognition as a leading lawyer by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business (bankruptcy and bankruptcy litigation); by The Best Lawyers in America (bankruptcy litigation) and as a 'Texas Super Lawyer' by Texas Monthly (commercial litigation). Mr Lee is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Turnaround Management Association.

Mr Lee obtained his BA from Tulane University in 1973 and his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1976.
