Management Labour and Employment
Biography: Management Labour and Employment
Brian J Gold, a partner and head of Sidley's employment and labour practice, counsels and litigates on a wide range of labour and employment matters. On behalf of several Fortune 500 employers as well as many mid-size manufacturing and service companies, Mr Gold handles industrial labour litigation, arbitrations, unfair labour practice charges, collective bargaining, alternative dispute resolution, and employment discrimination litigation. Mr Gold has had substantial experience in handling all kinds of labour issues in virtually every type of forum that arise from business transactions and corporate restructuring. Mr Gold regularly advises the firm's clients in connection with corporate acquisitions and has litigated union challenges related to such transactions in the courts and before the NLRB and arbitrators. He recently won a favourable ruling for a client in a case of first impression, in which the Illinois Collective Bargaining Successor Employer Act was found to be preempted by federal labour laws. As a result, the purchaser in a transaction was not required by state law to assume the terms of the seller's labour agreement. Mr Gold also regularly represents clients in connection with collective bargaining and NLRB charges. He is a member of the Fellows Board of Leadership Greater Chicago and is active in a number of civic organisations. Mr Gold is a long-standing member of the Committee on ADR in Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association, and a member of the ABA's Dispute Resolution and the Federal Labor Standards Committees.
