Her practice has covered a wide ambit of the legal issues which international commerce creates, focusing on complex, multi-jurisdictional, high-value disputes from many sectors. In the last 20 years she has had a particular focus on international disputes arising in the insurance and reinsurance sector, including those relating to run-off and business transfer arrangements and those arising in the context of alternative risk transfer, as well as the more traditional coverage issues. She also assists in coordinating responses to regulatory and other investigations for clients, for example, as part of corporate self-governance programmes.
Dorothy's legal skills are combined with detailed knowledge of the procedure of both the English High Court and arbitration (both ad hoc and under various rules and in various jurisdictions), and how these can be employed to clients' tactical advantage. Dorothy also brings to the table commercial acumen and strategic planning skills to assist in resolving disputes to the clients' satisfaction.
Dorothy has litigated and arbitrated in the US and Bermuda. She writes and lectures both in the UK and overseas and sits as an arbitrator.
