Biography: Franchise

Stéphane Teasdale, a partner in the Montreal office at Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP and chair of the national franchise group, is a leading practitioner in the area of commercial law and is internationally renowned for his unique expertise in the area of franchising.

For more than 20 years, Stéphane has provided legal and strategic counsel in transactional and litigation matters dealing with corporate, commercial, competition, real estate and intellectual property. He advises prominent Canadian, American and foreign franchise systems wishing to establish themselves or expand in Canada, particularly in Quebec, and to Canadian franchise systems expanding internationally to destinations such as Europe and North Africa.

Actively involved in Canadian, American and international franchise associations, he is currently the vice president and an executive committee member of the Quebec Franchise Council. A frequent lecturer on franchise matters at both domestic and international forums, and author of numerous published articles, Stéphane is recognised in Canada, the United States and abroad as one of the few experts in franchising law in Quebec, an honour that has been repeatedly acknowledged by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Franchise Times magazine and, more recently, The Best Lawyers in Canada 2010. A graduate of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, the Université du Québec School of Business and the Queen's School of Business, Stéphane was called to the Quebec Bar in 1988 and is a member of the Canadian, American and International Bar Associations.
