Biography: Oil and Gas

Rick has significant experience in the areas of environmental, regulatory and aboriginal law. He has acted as environmental and regulatory counsel in respect of a variety of global projects, including petrochemical plants, oilsands plants, hazardous waste treatment facilities, and international pipelines. He has also represented project proponents before the Natural Resources Conservation Board, The Energy and Utilities Board, The National Energy Board, The Environmental Appeal Board, and various municipal planning tribunals.

Rick has lectured and published extensively in the areas of environmental and regulatory law, including authoring the Alberta portion of the textbook Contaminated Property in Canada, (Carswell Thomson Professional Publishing, 1996). His published articles describe practice and procedure before regulatory tribunals such as the National Energy Board, Natural Resources Conservation Board, and the Energy and Utilities Board.

Rick has also advised governments and regulatory boards and industry in respect of offshore energy transportation and development issues in all areas of Canada. Currently, Rick is a director of the Canadian Institute of Resources Law and the Alberta Chamber of Resources.
