Peter and the Blake Dawson team have obtained competition law clearances and authorisations for numerous mergers and joint ventures. These have included complex and difficult local transactions, such as Ramsay Health Care's acquisition of the Affinity private hospitals, and the merger between Alinta and AGL; and the Australian component of global transactions, such as the acquisition of DoubleClick by Google. Peter also provides strategic advice to opponents of mergers and other affected parties.
Peter has acted in many of the leading Australian competition law cases, including successfully defending Mayne Group in a price fixing prosecution and representing Warner Music and Baxter Healthcare in Federal Court appeals in misuse of market power prosecutions. Peter has also acted for a range of clients in cartel leniency applications, investigations, and prosecutions, including representing BASF in a range of legal proceedings concerning the vitamins cartel.
Peter is a member of the Law Council of Australia's trade practices committee (the premier Australian professional body), a member of the American Bar Association antitrust section and the International Bar Association antitrust committee.
The Blake Dawson Waldron competition practice consists of six partners and 28 associates around Australia. Many of the team are qualified in economics and have previous experience with regulators or in-house. The team has extensive experience analysing competition issues and corporate strategic behaviour across a broad range of industries.
