Biography: Arbitration

Paolo Di Rosa is a partner at Arnold & Porter LLP, where he heads the firm's International Arbitration Practice Group. His practice centres on international arbitration and litigation matters, including in particular arbitral disputes between investors and states under bilateral investment treaties and other investment instruments, and disputes before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). He is a frequent speaker on topics of international arbitration at international seminars and conferences, and has served as arbitrator. He has been profiled or recommended in numerous publications such as Chambers Global, Chambers Latin America, Chambers USA, The Legal 500, Euromoney Guide to the World's Leading Experts in Commercial Arbitration, LatinLawyer 250, Global Arbitration Review, International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitration, Super Lawyers, and Washingtonian.

Mr Di Rosa has extensive experience in legal matters relating to Latin America, is a native Spanish and English speaker, and has a bicultural background. Earlier in his career, he was a senior lawyer at the US Department of State, and a member of the Senior Executive Service of the US government. As head of the Office of the Legal Adviser for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the State Department, he had responsibility for legal matters pertaining to US relations with all countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as Canada, and served as chief negotiator for the US for numerous international treaties and agreements.

Mr Di Rosa received a BA magna cum laude from Harvard College (1987) and a JD cum laude (1991) from Harvard Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Harvard Human Rights Journal.
