Robert is a partner and notary public with Speechly Bircham and a partner in the firm's IP, technology and commercial law group where he advises multinational businesses on legal and regulatory issues. He is a highly regarded technology lawyer and has specialised in internet and e-commerce law since 1990. He has specialised in IT, computer games law and data protection law since 1979.

His legal and compliance work encompasses information security, data protection, encryption and biometrics, IT contracts, digital and social media and e-commerce.

Robert is recognised as a legal expert by Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Technology & Telecommunications Lawyers and is also listed in Legal Experts 2010, published by Legal Business and is listed as a 'Notable Practitioner' for data protection in Chambers Legal Guide.

Robert is widely published and is the author of several leading books and many publications including Equity - Navigating Security and Legal Issues in Digital Business published in 2002 by John Wiley & Sons Ltd, Negotiating International Software Licences and Data Transfer Agreements now in its fourth edition and published by Sweet & Maxwell, and is legal editor of Getting the Deal Through - e-Commerce published by Law Business Research.

Robert is a companion of the British Computer Society, a Fellow of the Society of Advanced Legal Studies and is chairman of the ICC (UK) e-business IT and telecoms committee and founder of The i in online Ltd a charity aimed at teaching children how to manage their privacy online.
