Biography: Patents

Jianyang (Eugene) Yu is a partner at the law firm Liu, Shen & Associates. He specialises in intellectual property counselling, licensing, litigation and dispute resolutions before administrative agencies. He has successfully represented a major foreign company as the lead counsel in China's first patent infringement litigation that involved a foreign party, and has since represented a number of multinational corporations in intellectual property disputes in China. He has won the most comprehensive IP litigation so far in China involving patent, trademark and copyright infringement, and unfair competition, and the case was declared by the Supreme Court of China to be one of the representative IP litigation cases.

Mr Yu has been actively involved in the legislative processes of intellectual property laws and regulations. He is a member of the drafting committee of the Trade Secrets Law of China. He has published dozens of articles on intellectual property and is a frequent speaker and lecturer. Mr Yu has served on the board of directors of the All China Lawyers' Association, the Chinese Intellectual Property Society, the Licensing Executives Society China and the international advisory committee of the Public Interest Intellectual Property Advisors.

He received his BS in mechanical engineering from Zhejiang University in China in 1982, studied law at Columbia University in New York City as a visiting scholar from 1985-1986, and received his LLM from the University of Michigan in 1987.
