Biography: Competition

Hanno Wollmann has been a partner with Schoenherr since 1998. He established the firm's EU and competition practice group. Hanno's practice focuses on European and Austrian competition law, where he represents and advises clients in a wide range of industries, including energy, telecommunications, environment, insurance, banking and finance, media, transport, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods. He is engaged in all types of public and private litigation as well as out of court advice and – of course – in merger control work. Headline transactions in the recent past include the representation of REWE before the Austrian Federal Competition Authority and the European Commission concerning the proposed acquisition of ADEG, the representation of Grazer Wechselseitige in state aid proceedings concerning the privatisation of Bank Burgenland both before the European Commission and now before the General Court, the representation of KONE Austria in antitrust-related damages proceedings before the Vienna Trade Court, or the Austrian savings bank case (article 101 TFEU litigation before the Austrian Cartel Court). He acts as permanent counsel to the Austrian Insurance Association (VVO) and a number of insurance companies.

Hanno is recognised in The International Who's Who Competition Lawyers & Economists and is highly rated in various other international rankings. He obtained his law degrees from the University of Vienna (Dr iur 1991) and the University of Exeter (LLM in European Legal Studies 1991). In addition to his legal education, he obtained a business degree from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (Mag rer soc oec 1991). Hanno has been a member of the Austrian Bar since 1995. He is a permanent correspondent to legal journal Wirtschaft und Wettbewerb, co-editor of legal journal Ecolex and author of numerous books and articles in his areas of specialisation. He is a visiting lecturer on the LLM programmes of the University of Vienna, as well as of the MBL-HSG (St Gallen).
