Biography: Business Crime Defence

Michail Wladimiroff is a partner at Wladimiroff Advocaten NV, a boutique firm dedicated to defence in white-collar crime and administrative penal sanctions. The firm's lawyers deal with the full range of authorities prosecuting for offences in these fields on the national or international level. The expertise on the subjects of fraud, financial, economic and environmental crime, and penal tax litigation is unique for the Netherlands.

A graduate of Leiden University in civil, criminal and administrative law, he was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands in 1972. Michail is professor emeritus of law and taught economic criminal law at Utrecht University. He was also an active member of the faculty of the Arusha School on International Law and Human Rights and the faculty of the Gabarone School on International Criminal Jurisdiction.

Professor Wladimiroff is an internationally recognised expert on humanitarian law. He has acted as lead counsel or has been involved as amicus curiae in most high-profile cases before international tribunals since 1995. He regularly lectures on international prosecution and is involved in the training of legal professionals all over the world. Michail is one of the Netherlands' top defence counsel, reputed for managing defence teams in massive and complex fraud cases. Over the past decades he has been lead counsel in most of the prominent fraud cases in various jurisdictions.

Professor Wladimiroff has been responsible for the criminal law curricula of the Dutch Bar Association for many years. He chaired the standing advisory committee on criminal law of the Dutch Bar for more than 20 years and several other committees of the Bar Association, as well as governmental bodies. Presently he co-chairs the national review committee for criminal cases. He is one of the founding members of the Dutch Association of Criminal Defence Counsel, the European Criminal Bar Association and the International Criminal Defence Attorney's Association, and was a board member of these associations. Michail is an honorary member of the European Criminal Bar Association as well as a member of the International Bar Association (and its war crimes committee), the International Criminal Bar Association and various professional organisations in the Netherlands.
