Biography: Competition

Christian Wik, a partner of 160-lawyer Roschier, is in charge of the firm's competition and EU practice. His practice also covers M&A, joint ventures and similar transactions, as well as the telecommunications and energy markets.

Mr Wik was born in 1960. He obtained an LLM at the University of Helsinki in 1984 and at the Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas in 1985. He trained at the Bench in 1985-86 and has been a member of the Finnish Bar since 1989. Christian Wik joined Roschier Holmberg in 1986 and has been a partner since 1993.

Christian Wik has written a number of articles on competition law, joint ventures, telecommunications, mergers and acquisitions as well as agency and distribution law in both national and international legal publications (including inter alia European Competition Law Review, European Counsel, Global Competition Review, and International Financial Law Review). He has also written extensively on Finnish competition law and merger control in, inter alia, Kilpailuoikeus (Competition Law) (co-author, Talentum, 2004), Competition Law in the EU, its Member States and Switzerland (Kluwer Law International, 2002), Merger Control in the EU (Kluwer Law International, 1999), Antitrust Laws and Trade Regulation (Lexis Publishing/Matthew Bender, 2000), International Mergers, the Antitrust Process (Sweet & Maxwell, 2001). In addition, he frequently gives lectures at seminars on competition law, merger control, telecommunications, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures as well as agency and distribution law.

Roschier's EU and Competition Law specialist team works with Finnish and EC competition laws as well as EU law, representing clients both before the Finnish authorities and the European Commission. Also, the firm frequently handles multinational merger control filings eg in the Nordic and Baltic countries, often in cooperation with local counsel in such jurisdictions.
