Biography: Insolvency & Restructuring

Jane Lee Vris is a partner at Vinson & Elkins LLP in the firm's New York office. Previously, she was a partner with Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and a founding partner of Cronin & Vris LLP, a bankruptcy boutique firm in New York. Her clients have included creditors, debtors, potential purchasers of assets from distressed companies, and equity investors in companies emerging from chapter 11. Recent public matters have included the representation of JPMorgan Securities Inc, the equity backstop provider for Northwest Airlines emerging from chapter 11; Entergy Corp in connection with the chapter 11 case of its subsidiary Entergy New Orleans, reorganising in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; a significant creditor and defendant in the Enron bankruptcy and related litigation; a significant equity sponsor for a major public airline exiting chapter 11; and a number of reorganisations of multinational public companies involving concurrent chapter 11 cases and foreign proceedings.

Ms Vris is a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference, an organisation in the United States consisting of approximately 60 of the leading bankruptcy lawyers, law professors and judges. She is also a long-time contributing editor to Colliers on Bankruptcy, the leading treatise on bankruptcy in the United States, and participates frequently on continuing legal educational panels, lecturing and writing on bankruptcy topics.

She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988, graduating magna cum laude, and her Juris Doctor from New York University Law School, where she was managing editor of the Law Review in 1983.
