Biography: Life Sciences

Wolfgang von Meibom was chairman of Bird & Bird's offices in Germany and founder of the German intellectual property group. He has established a leading international reputation for IP litigation including patents, trademarks and competition and antitrust matters. He is highly renowned for work in all areas of intellectual property, both nationally and internationally. Wolfgang has been involved in many high-profile and technical patent cases, including those for the electronic, life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors.

Wolfgang advises both major multinational firms and medium-sized enterprises. During his career he has won a number of high profile and important cases for his clients. Many of these have been precedent cases in Germany.

The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers ranks Wolfgang von Meibom as one of the 10 "most highly regarded individuals" worldwide on the shortlist of elite life sciences lawyers in its 2009 edition. Chambers Europe 2010, places Wolfgang in Band 1 for his patent litigation expertise and clients interviewed say he has "great gravitas and authority in court; he is someone judges really listen to." PLC Which Lawyer? identifies Wolfgang in its 2010 yearbook for life sciences (IP) and for intellectual property (patent litigation) as a 'leading individual' in Germany. Legal 500 recommends him in its 2010 edition as 'very savvy regarding litigation strategy and execution' and is able to 'think outside the box' for IP patent litigation. The JUVE Handbook of German Commercial Law Firms regularly identifies Wolfgang as a leading lawyer in his field and in its 2009/2010 edition describes him in the top category as one of the "leading senior-partners among patent litigators".

Wolfgang is member of numerous German and international intellectual property associations such as AIPLA, ALAI, EPLAW and IBA. He frequently lectures on patent law at international conventions and seminars. In 2010 Wolfgang has been appointed as guest professor of the Renmin University of China in Beijing and in 2006 he has been awarded as a guest professor of the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPSL).

Wolfgang is a faculty member of the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC) and an advisory board member of the faculty of law at the Heinrich-Heine-University in Dusseldorf. He is trilingual, speaking English, French and German, and is the author of many legal publications.
