Biography: Competition

Joseph Vogel founded the Vogel & Vogel law firm with his brother Louis in 1990. As a senior partner, he is a recognised specialist in distribution law, especially automotive distribution, and in all areas of competition law.

A 1980 graduate of the Institut d'Etudes Politiques (IEP) in Paris, Mr Vogel obtained a DECS (diplôme d'etudes comptables supérieures) and a DEA in business law in 1983. He has been a member of both the Paris and the New York Bars since 1990.

Mr Vogel is active in all areas of French and EU competition law, such as merger notifications or article 101 and 102 EC actions, and he advises blue-chip clients in major economic sectors – including motor vehicles, telecommunications, banking, pharmaceuticals, and television – on exclusive and selective distribution, franchise, and agency agreements, along with handling all ensuing litigation.

Mr Vogel has published widely in his areas of expertise. He has written books on European business law and motor vehicle distribution law, and published articles in journals such as the Revue Lamy, La Semaine Juridique and a number of other French and European periodicals. He is a member of the German, French, and European Bar associations. He is fluent in English and German as well as French.
