Biography: Project Finance
L Viswanathan is a partner of Amarchand Mangaldas and heads the project finance practice. He has rich experience in project finance and banking and advises India's leading corporate and financial institution on infrastructure projects.He has been included amongst the top project finance lawyers in the country by several leading international legal publications such as in The International Who's Who of Project Finance Lawyers, The International Who's Who of Public Procurement Lawyers, Expert Guides, IFLR 1000, Project Finance International, Asialaw and Asia Pacific Legal 500. The Guide to the World's Leading Banking Lawyers 2009 recognises Viswanathan as one of the outstanding practitioners in this field.
Chambers Asia 2011 states that L Viswanathan is an extremely well-respected banking lawyer, with particular expertise in project finance transactions. 'He is a key player in this field - bright and motivated and as specialised as you can get'.
Viswanathan joined the firm in 1994 after graduating from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore and was made partner in 2000.
His recent experience includes advising lenders to India's first private cross country pipeline and Indian's largest privatised road project; advising the developers with respect to the privatisation and modernisation of the Mumbai International Airport and the syndicate of lenders financing the Delhi International Airport; advising in a study for privatisation of industrial water supply and on port projects; working extensively on power projects including the restructuring of the Dabhol Power Project over four years and on the Petronet LNG terminal financing; and acting for the lenders in the financing of the first Ultra Mega Power Project developed by the Tata Group.
