Christoph Stadler has been a partner with Hengeler Mueller since 1998. From 2003 to 2006, he was resident in the firm's Brussels office.
Mr Stadler has far-reaching experience in advising foreign and domestic clients from numerous industries in EU and domestic merger control cases. A recent example is his representation of RWE in its highly complex acquisition of the Dutch incumbent Essent. Mr Stadler has also been responsible for coordinating large merger control cases in European and non-European jurisdictions.
Mr Stadler advises large multinational as well as mid-sized clients in cartel investigations and abuse of dominance cases conducted by the European Commission and national competition authorities. For instance, he currently assists parties involved in the prestressing steel and candle wax cases at EU level, as well as parties involved in several FCO investigations (eg, relating to the confectionery, coffee, flour and retail trade sectors). He also represented RWE in the European Commission's recent abuse of dominance cases in the electricity and gas sectors.
Mr Stadler holds an LLM degree of the University of Michigan and serves on the board of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht, the association of German-speaking competition lawyers. He has published articles and co-authored several books on European and German competition law. For several years, he lectured at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg. Mr Stadler is a frequent speaker at international and domestic competition law conferences.
