Biography: Franchise

Alan H Silberman is a former chair of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law (1993-94) and chair of Sonnenschein's antitrust, marketing practices, franchising/distribution group. He has participated actively in competition law issues in the US and internationally. A graduate of Yale Law School (1964), he has 40 years' experience in antitrust, franchising and distribution litigation, counselling and related transactional representation, as well as in general commercial litigation.

He has represented manufacturers and franchisors in a number of negotiated, litigated and arbitrated disputes with distributors, franchises and third parties and regularly represents manufacturers and franchising clients in domestic and international activities.

A member of the Bureau of National Affairs' Antitrust and Trade Regulation Advisory Board, he is a frequent speaker on antitrust topics relating to marketing, distribution, franchising, litigation and insurance at various national and international programmes and seminars, and has published extensively on antitrust, franchising and litigation subjects. He has tried lawsuits and argued appeals in courts throughout the US, including arguments before various US courts of appeals and district courts, as well as state courts.

In franchising, marketing and distribution matters, he has acted as outside counsel for McDonald's Corporation, Intercontinental Hotel Group and other major firms. He is both a counsellor and litigator on antitrust issues for a wide range of companies and has been involved in the "Insurance Antitrust Litigation" and the "Pharmaceutical Drug Antitrust Litigation".
