Perry J Shwachman is a partner in Sidley's Chicago office. Mr Shwachman devotes a substantial amount of his practice to representing issuers and purchasers of financial products. He has regularly represented insurance companies, investment advisers, dealers, pension plans, investment companies, banks and other financial institutions in creating, negotiating and documenting a broad range of over-the-counter financial instruments, including structured products, asset-backed and synthetic securities, money market fund eligible securities, over-the-counter derivative instruments, repurchase agreements, securities lending and stable value investment products.

In addition, Mr Shwachman regularly counsels insurance company, investment adviser, investment company, bank and broker-dealer clients on securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions and federal, state and self-regulatory organisations, registration and compliance issues. Mr Shwachman also advises regulated entities such as insurance companies, investment companies (including money market funds) and banks on permissible investment activities.

Mr Shwachman is on the editorial advisory board of, and is a regular columnist for, Derivatives Financial Products Report, and has been a featured speaker for conferences hosted by the International Business Communications, Institute for International Research, Investment Management Institute and the Stable Value Association.

In 1986, Mr Shwachman graduated cum laude from the University of Chicago Law School, and in 1983 with highest honours from the University of Illinois. In addition, Mr Shwachman is a certified public accountant, having received a bronze medal for passing the 1983 CPA examination with the third-highest score in the State of Illinois.
