Biography: Private funds

Phyllis A Schwartz is a partner in Schulte Roth & Zabel's investment management group. Ms Schwartz concentrates on the structuring, formation and operation of private equity funds, including buyout funds, venture capital funds, mezzanine funds, distressed funds, real estate funds and small business investment companies. In her practice, she represents both fund sponsors and investors. She assists fund sponsors with their internal management arrangements and creation of internal investment vehicles, has extensive experience with institutional investors, and regularly advises clients on market terms of investment funds. Ms Schwartz also represents private equity funds in connection with their investments in, and dispositions of, portfolio companies.

Ms Schwartz is a member of the New York Private Investment Fund Forum. She is a frequent speaker about topics relevant to private equity funds, including the fund formation process, the use of placement agents and anticipated changes to the private equity fund industry. She is a co-author of Private Equity Funds: Formation and Operation. It is considered the leading treatise on the subject.

Ms Schwartz is a graduate of Smith College and a graduate of the Columbia University School of Law.
