Stephen W Schwab represents insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries, regulators, receivers and managers in high profile insurance/reinsurance litigation, arbitrations, mediations, innovative transactions and troublesome regulatory matters.

Mr Schwab has published an extensive list of book chapters, law review articles and pieces for trade publications, which courts cite as authoritative, and has lectured on insurance and reinsurance topics throughout the world. Mr Schwab is an active member of the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the International Association of Insurance Receivers, and is actively involved in the National Conference of Insurance Legislators and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. He is a non-member state delegate to the Hague Conference on Private International Law, Special Commission on Jurisdiction, Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters. Mr Schwab received his BA in 1979 from Northwestern University, and his JD in 1982 from Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University, where he was elected to the Order of Barristers.

Mr Schwab's current transactional experience includes over US$500m of insurance/reinsurance-related coverage termination deals with the Kemper Group. Representative cases in which Mr Schwab has appeared recently include: People ex rel Clark v Legion Indem Co, 14 23 Mealey's Lit Rep Ins Insolvency (2003), No. 02 CH 6695 (Cir Ct Cook Cty) challenging liquidation petition and In re the Liquidation of Geneva Ass Synd Inc, 96 CH 5093 (Cir Ct Cook Cty 2003), approving wind up plan for Ill Ins Exchange. He has also submitted amicus curiae briefs to the US Supreme Court, eg Hartford Fire Ins Co v California, 113 S Ct 2891 (1993), insurance antitrust case and US Dept of the Treasury v Fabe, 113 S Ct (1993), superiority case.
