Biography: Corporate Tax

Michael L Schler is a partner in the Cravath Swaine & Moore tax department. Mike's practice includes corporate tax, corporate finance (including structured finance and securitisations), mergers and acquisitions, and international transactions.

Mr Schler has long been active in the New York State Bar Association Tax Section, having served as its chair between 1994 and 1995, and as a member of the executive committee since 1985. He has been co-chair of numerous committees of the tax section, including corporations, partnerships and consolidated returns.

Mr Schler is a trustee and vice president of the American Tax Policy Institute, the chair of the New York Tax Forum, and a member of the American College of Tax Counsel. He has been a consultant to the American Law Institute Federal Income Tax Project on integration of the individual and corporate income taxes, and to the institute's project on taxation of private business enterprises.

Mr Schler is the author of numerous published articles, and a frequent speaker at tax conferences, including PLI and ALI-ABA. He is the co-chair of the annual merger and acquisition tax institute co-sponsored by Penn State Dickinson School of Law and the New York City Bar.

Mr Schler received a BA magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1970, a JD from Yale Law School in 1973 and an LLM in taxation from New York University in 1979. After a clerkship with the Honourable Max Rosenn (US Court of Appeals, Third Circuit), he joined Cravath in 1974 and became a partner in 1982.
