Chris has represented governments and Crown agencies in connection with inter-governmental negotiations and dispute resolution under international treaties governing the development of cross-boundary rivers. He has also been involved in US and Canadian litigation arising from international power sales.
Chris appears frequently before regulatory boards in energy and environmental matters in British Columbia, Alberta and the Northwest Territories. He represents clients in judicial proceedings arising in the regulatory context or from the relationship between business and government, heard by the courts of British Columbia and Alberta and in the federal court system.
Chris is recognised by the LEXPERT/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada for his expertise in energy (electricity); the Canadian Legal LEXPERTᅡᆴ Directory for his expertise in energy (electricity) and oil and gas; and the Best Lawyers in Canada directory in the energy regulatory law and natural resources law categories.
Chris is a member of the Bars of British Columbia (1978), Alberta (1988), Queen's Counsel, British Columbia (2001), and Northwest Territories (2001).
Chris is the chair of the advisory council to the Dr Andrew R Thompson natural resource law programme in the faculty of law at the University of British Columbia. He is also a member of the editorial board for Federated Press journal entitled Regulatory Boards and Administrative Law Litigation.
