Tommaso Salonico is a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, based in the Rome office. He heads the antitrust, competition and trade (ACT) practice group in Italy and coordinates the energy, natural resources and infrastructures (ENR) sector group. His practice focuses on EU and Italian competition law work and utilities regulation.
Tommaso's recent work includes advising energy companies on black-out responsibility, tariff regulation, stranded costs, distribution, quality services, negotiations of supply and purchase agreements, import contracts, development of liquefied natural gas projects, leniency programmes, price fixing and share of information cartel cases, outsourcing agreements, discrimination of prices, and litigation on damages for competition law infringements. Tommaso has also represented many companies interested in challenging regulatory and antitrust rulings before the Italian courts.
Before joining Freshfields, Tommaso worked for Telecom Italia, where he was in charge of regulatory strategies and competition affairs in the regulation and competition policy department. He also worked for six years at the Italian Antitrust Authority in Rome as director of the department responsible for competition policy in fields such as energy, manufacturing and industry, environment, health services and property.
As a professor of competition law, Tommaso has lectured at the universities of Rome, Naples and Pisa. He is the author of various legal publications, in particular on telecoms regulation and competition law. He is also a member of the Competition Committee of the Italian section of the ICC.
He graduated in law (JD, summa cum laude) from the University of Pisa. Of Italian mother tongue, he is also fluent in English.
