He is a member of the Commission on Arbitration, and chairs ICC Norway's Committee on international arbitration. He has co-written the Commentary on the Norwegian Arbitration Act, which is an UNCITRAL Model Law. He frequently lectures on arbitration topics and is the Norwegian contributor to the International Handbook on Commercial Arbitration.
Mr Ryssdal also acts as counsel in international arbitrations including ICC arbitrations under foreign law. He holds 25 years of general practice as a litigator, starting out with the Solicitor General, joining Wiersholm as a partner in 1993. He is currently the head of Wiersholm's dispute resolution practice. His candidate (1983) and doctoral degrees (1995) are from the University of Oslo and he holds an LLM degree (1986) from Harvard Law School. He is admitted to the Norwegian Supreme Court (1989) and has appeared in a number of cases there.
Mr Ryssdal was the President of the Norwegian Bar Association from 2004 to 2008 and has headed a number of Norwegian legislative committees in various fields (among other things, competition and securities law). Mr Ryssdal is frequently ranked as one of the top civil litigators in Norway in international rankings. He is also highly recommended within the fields of dispute resolution, competition and antitrust.
