Alan spent three years in the Washington, DC office practising EU law for clients mainly based in North America and was one of the only EU lawyers based in North America at the time. In addition to EU competition law, he also has a solid understanding of US antitrust law and has particular expertise in coordinating cases reviewed on both sides of the Atlantic.
He has handled numerous merger notifications and other competition cases which include representing the Irish Department of Transport on Ryanair/Aer Lingus; the Ferrovial-led consortium in its bid for BAA; ED&F Man on its transaction with Sudzucker, the Aegean/Olympic and Iberia/Clickair/Vueling mergers; Swiss on its merger with Lufthansa; and Rockwell Collins on its intervention in GE/Honeywell.
Alan studied at the University of Cambridge and the University of Michigan. He is qualified as a solicitor in England and is also a member of the New York and District of Columbia Bars.
