Alan is currently based in the firm's Brussels office. He spent three years in the Washington, DC office practising EU law for clients mainly based in North America and was one of the only EU lawyers based in North America. In addition to EU competition law, he also has a solid understanding of US antitrust law and has particular expertise in coordinating cases reviewed on both sides of the Atlantic.
He has handled numerous merger notifications and other competition cases among which include working for Alcan Aluminium in its proposed mergers with Alusuisse and Pechiney and subsequently Rio Tinto; Swiss on its merger with Lufthansa; Rockwell Collins on its intervention in GE/Honeywell; the Irish Department of Transport on Ryanair/Aer Lingus and the Ferrovial-led consortium in its bid for BAA.
Alan studied at the University of Cambridge and the University of Michigan. He is qualified as a solicitor in England and is also a member of the New York Bar.
