Valdir Rocha was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on 14 July 1956 and graduated from the Law School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1981, having taken several postgraduate courses on trademarks, copyrights, contracts and IP arbitration. He has attended over 100 conferences and seminars on Intellectual Property law since 1980, half of them abroad, in which he has spoken 14 times in IBA, INTA, GALA, ANA, HARVARD and ASIPI conferences.
Valdir has written several articles for Trademark World, Copyright World, Valor Econômico, Meio e Mensagem, INTA Bulletin and Revista do Direito Mercantil, among others, and he is the co-author and organiser of Law and the Internet (O Direito e a Internet), published in 2002, in Rio de Janeiro. He is also the co-author of 13 annual reviews of trademark jurisprudence, published by INTA since 1994. His articles can be found at www.valdirrocha.com.br.
His areas of specialisation are trademarks, patents, industrial designs, copyrights, rights of publicity, advertising, licensing, technology transfer, unfair competition, trade secrets, franchising, internet and IP litigation. He is a member of INTA (former member of the editorial board and other committees), AIPPI, ASIPI, ABPI (member of the board), ABAPI (chairman of the board), ABDA, ABF and GALA (former regional president of the Americas). He is registered with the Brazilian Bar Association, sections of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Sul states. Valdir joined Veirano in 1990 and is the firm's national coordinator of intellectual property.
