Biography: Regulatory Communications

Biörn Riese studied at the University of Stockholm (LLM, 1978; MBA, 1980). After service in Swedish courts and work as a law firm associate (1980-1983), he joined Carl Swartling Advokatbyrå as associate (1984-1988) and partner (1989-1990), becoming a partner of Mannheimer Swartling Advokatbyrå in 1990. Mannheimer Swartling is one of the major Swedish law firms, employing some 350 lawyers.

He has wide experience of commercial and legal issues within the Swedish and international telecoms, computer and software industries. He has over the years been involved in many M&A transactions, international consortia and joint ventures applying for telecoms licences in and outside Europe, advising on commercial, corporate and regulatory matters. He regularly advises on traditional information technology matters such as matters related to provision of services, licensing and technology transfer, systems integration and outsourcing.

Biörn Riese heads Mannheimer Swartling's IT, telecoms and technology practice group advising clients at the firm's Swedish and foreign offices. The firm's telecoms, and technology practice group consists of some 30 lawyers from the firm's Swedish and foreign offices. He has also been the chairman of the board since 2002. He is a member of the Swedish National Committee on Telecommunications and Information Technologies of the International Chamber of Commerce, among other bodies.
