Biography: Corporate Tax

Elinore Richardson is a senior partner of Borden Ladner Gervais, one of Canada's most respected national law firms with offices in Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Waterloo Region. She heads the firm's international tax group, and is the national coordinator of the firm's international law practice. She divides her tax practice between international taxation and corporate finance, acting for multinationals, partnerships, trusts, financial institutions and high net worth individuals, advising on complex transactions, particularly those involving multiple jurisdictions. Her expertise is in all aspects of Canadian federal and Ontario and Quebec provincial tax law with application primarily to reorganisations and restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, international investment fund structure and management, treasury planning, transfer pricing, off-shore trusts, government representation and controversy.

Educated originally in Ontario, she is a member of the bars of Ontario, Quebec and New York State and on the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales.

Miss Richardson is currently an officer of the Section of Taxation, American Bar Association, holding the position of vice chair, Professional Services Committee, International, and a former co-chair of the Taxation Committee and a former member of the council of the Legal Practice Division, International Bar Association. In 2007, she became a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. She is also editor-in-chief of Corporate Finance, a publication of Federated Press Publications. She has participated on numerous panels and conferences, has taught courses at McGill and New York Universities and has written widely on taxation matters.
