Biography: Competition

Dr Axel Reidlinger is a partner in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's antitrust, competition and trade (ACT) practice group, based in the Vienna office. His specialisations include competition law, public procurement law and energy regulatory law.

Axel's recent work includes advising various clients on notifications under the European Merger Regulation and representing companies before the European courts in competition cases. He regularly acts for clients in merger control, cartel and dominance cases before the Austrian competition authorities, and in structuring distribution systems.

In state aid law, Axel has worked for various publicly owned companies in evaluating and structuring their financing arrangements with the state. In public procurement law, he has assisted several bidders before the Federal Procurement Office in obtaining the annulment of award decisions by contracting authorities to competitors and in defending contract awards to clients.

Born in 1967, Axel was educated at the University of Vienna faculty of law and at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (where he is still an occasional lecturer), as well as the University Paris 2. He obtained an LLM/DEA in European Community law from the College of Europe in Bruges before joining the firm in 1994. Axel is qualified in Austria and has practised in Brussels and Vienna.
