Biography: Aviation

John F Pritchard practises at Holland & Knight in equipment and facility finance and is knowledgeable in all areas of asset-based financing. He most frequently represents lessees, lessors, lenders, borrowers and government guarantors in domestic and cross-border leases, purchases, financings, securitisations, workouts and foreclosures of aircraft.

He is the chairman of the legal advisory panel to the Aviation Working Group with respect to the Cape Town Convention. He served as chairman for the annual Euromoney Airfinance Legal Conference in Washington, DC from 1986 to 2004. He is a member of the American College of Finance Lawyers. Mr Pritchard was the chairman of the subcommittee on aircraft financing of the American Bar Association (ABA) from 1987 to 1994. He is on the advisory board of the Journal of Air Law and Commerce. He graduated Columbia Law School and Bowdoin College.

Mr Pritchard is the author of the US chapter in McBain and Hames, Aircraft Finance: Registration, Security and Enforcement, Longmans; the chapter regarding 'Aviation Workouts' in Rome, Business Workouts, Warren, Gorham & Lamont; the chapter on 'Aircraft Leasing' in Wong, Equipment Leasing, Matthew Bender and the United States chapter in McBain, Aircraft Liens and Detention Rights, Sweet & Maxwell.

Mr Pritchard has lectured on, for example: FAA aircraft registration and choice of registry; legal and related aspects of operating leases; aircraft purchase contracts and aircraft lease portfolio acquisitions from the buyer's perspective; risks of doing business with limited partnerships and funds as aircraft lessors; cross-border leasing and owner FSC transactions; ways of recovering an aircraft in the US; and US Ex-Im Bank financing.
