Vinayak handles all aspects of civil and commercial litigation. He heads the construction and engineering practice area in Skrine, the bulk of whose work concerns arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. He has appeared as counsel in a wide variety of cases at all levels of the courts of West Malaysia as well as on an ad hoc basis in the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak.
Vinayak is a chartered arbitrator and has sat as an arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations that have included arbitrations under the rules of the LCIA, the ICC, the SIAC, the HKIAC, the KLRCA (UNCITRAL Rules) and PAM. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators and the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration. He has appeared as a solicitor and counsel in both domestic and international arbitrations.
From 1998 to 2003, Vinayak was a commissioner of the United Nations Compensation Commission, sitting on a panel that dealt with construction and civil engineering claims approximating US$3 billion. In May 2003, he was appointed as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration. He is a vice chair of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and he is currently vice president of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. In July 2008 he was appointed to the panel of conciliators and arbitrators of ICSID. Vinayak is also a commissioner of the Malaysian Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission.
Vinayak is a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport and is on the register of arbitrators of the Olympic Council of Malaysia. He is also on the panel of arbitrators of various institutions and has presented papers and spoken on arbitration at numerous domestic and international conferences.
He has written various chapters and articles on arbitration and construction law and delivered lectures on arbitration at the University of Malaya, the International Islamic University and the Judicial and Legal Training Institute in Malaysia.
