Project Finance

Biography: Project Finance

Gilbert D Porter is co-chair of the projects practice at Haynes and Boone across the firm's 10 offices. Prior to opening the New York office of Haynes and Boone in 2004, Mr Porter was co-chair of the global finance and project finance groups at Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher LLP. Before that, Mr Porter was a founding partner, and the managing partner, of Porter & Travers.

For more than 30 years Mr Porter's practice has included financial product development, project development and financing, structured lending, workouts, joint ventures, negotiated acquisitions and venture financing, with particular emphasis on energy, telecommunications and other regulated industries and technology-based companies in the OECD and emerging markets. Many of Mr Porter's transactions have been first of a kind, addressing new technologies, innovative financing structures and novel adaptations of existing products.

Breadth and depth are the attributes Mr Porter uses to describe his experience. He has structured and closed more than 120 project transactions in more than 40 countries throughout the Americas, Asia, western and eastern Europe, the Middle East and South Africa, and has assisted and consulted on several hundred more. Transactions include gas and coal-fired cogeneration plants; geothermal, biomass and other alternate-fuel and renewable-resource power plants; nuclear fuel trusts; leases and synthetic leases of operating facilities and discrete assets; ethanol and synthetic fuels and lubricants; wireless and wire-line telecommunications, data communications and media projects; speciality chemicals and petrochemicals plants; pulp and paper facilities; natural resource development, mining and mineral-processing facilities; marine terminal facilities; toll roads, agricultural facilities, stadiums and other public infrastructure; and agency-supported emerging-market investment funds.
